the studio! | {hbp} studio children's photographer

I have been waiting so long to share this with everyone and finally it's ready! To give you the back story, I used to have a small studio at our house before we sold it about a year ago. There were always pros and cons with having a home studio- pros: no rent, don't have to go anywhere, can work whenever you want, like late at night! (there are lots more), cons: ALWAYS having to keep your house perfectly clean (i guess this could be pro too!), props/ weird photo stuff taking up a bunch of space that could be living space (i am sure there are lots more cons too but i will move on haha). About a year ago I decided it would be a good idea to lease a studio with a photographer friend of mine, it worked out great for us and fit all of our needs for the time being. Once we moved into our new house last March my head started filling with ideas on how I could turn a portion of our house into a studio. For the previous two years I had been mostly a natural light photographer, that was my comfort zone. I thought it would great to use our basement as a studio, except.... I wouldn't have the natural light I needed. To make my dream a reality I would need to learn studio lighting and the only way I would be satisfied was going to be if I could make it look similar to natural light! I decided we should go ahead with our plans to finish the basement into a studio/living space/playroom and I was going to spend lots of time learning studio lighting. I even flew to Utah to learn from an amazingly talented photographer, Angie Monson of Simplicity Photography.

We started our basement project this past summer and the whole thing was completed in just a few short months...amazingly! My husband is the hardest working person I know, he literally has a hard time just sitting around (well except on Sundays when football is on). I have him to thank for this wonderful space and helping me fulfill my dreams!

I am so excited to see what my future has in store and I am so happy and grateful for the opportunities that have come my way!
